The Party is Over, Charlie

We told you there would be numerous calls for Charlie White to resign his seat as Secretary of State after being indicted for voter fraud and there have been.
The Governor did and said he had spoken with the other statewide elected officials and they are in total agreement.
Indiana Republican Chairman Eric Holcomb weighed in saying White should step down at least until the legal process runs its course.
Former Secretary of State and current U.S. Congressman said he should step down.
The Evansville Courier-Press gave White a few jeers in their Cheers and Jeers column and said he should step down.
And Matt Tully of the Indy Star wrote a blistering column saying Charlie has got to go.
What does Charlie White say? According to Abdul, Charlie text him saying he has no intention of stepping down.
The whole thing reminds us of someone who has had too much to drink and won’t leave the bar. The lights are on and there is no one left at the party, Charlie. It is time to go home and try to sleep it off.
The Governor did not call for SoS White to resign, he called for him to step down (presumably handing off duties to the deputy SoS) at least until the case is resolved. This means he could potentially resume his duties, which obviously is not possible if he resigned. The Governor’s statement on behalf of himself and the other statewide office holders is the same as that of Chairman Holcomb (which is not surprising). From your Fox59 link:
“This news is sad and regrettable, but the only course of honor is for Mr. White to step down from his duties, at least during the duration of these proceedings until a verdict is reached. It would be neither credible nor appropriate for the state’s top elections official to continue to perform his duties while contesting criminal charges, some of them under the very laws the Secretary of State implements. I have consulted with each of the other statewide elected officials and our judgment about this is unanimous,” Daniels said in a released statement.
Indiana Republican Party Chairman Eric Holcomb echoed Daniels’ statement.
We linked to the article and the headline is that the Governor asked him to step down.
Bottom line is everyone wishes he would and the “at lease during the duration of these proceedings” is a compromise. No one wants to hear about this for several more months and would greatly prefer White resign and fade into the background.
What about the fund raiser that your old boss had for White? Any thoughts on potential repercussions?
